(Viewed best with light background.) The Ribbon Studies are a series of colorless graphics created by thin strips of material floating in air. Like the Casting Net project, these photographic motion studies are based on an object, an action, and a result. The purpose is to create graphic shapes that are fluid in form, and can be used as compositional
elements in a larger piece. (see Pleasure Makes Diamonds) To create each image, several strips of ribbon were thrown over a grouping of five fans in order to form a unique path of flight. Each toss of ribbon over the fans was different, and in one afternoon, I produced over 150 unique images. See Casting Net graphic studies here. Also see Point Fields.
