(Viewed best on dark background.) These photographic still lifes were constructed using five stands of light, seven clamps, and a 9 foot roll of photo backdrop paper. The forms are shaped to suggest that the paper is active, or in motion. This project is a part of several studies which I started to establish new methods for sourcing movement and composition in my graphic work. Aside from being attractive
photos, these compositions have been used for reference in my shape-building process, have been translated into drawings, and have become graphics themselves. My future plans include generating these forms in larger format with stronger sculptural focus, as well as using them as reference tools. See Ribbon Studies, Casting Nets, and Dot Fields for similar reference based work.
