PM(mix No.2) - Lifepartner

March 06, 2010

Accompanying the glimpse of sun and blooming colors is March's PM(mix No.2) by Lifepartner also known as Kirk Sutherland. In addition to working beautifully on a sonic level, this mix-tape illustrates a well crafted story. Lifepartner took the opportunity to outline a distinct view on the evolution and influences of Funky House and Future Bass by referencing a time line of garage and 2-step beat patterns. The result is a seamless amalgamation of anti-four-to-the-floor.

Lifepartner does it right. Hear more mixes at Lifepartner's Soundcloud and learn more about his practice on his blog, Wildlife.

Toro Y Moi - Causers of This

February 22, 2010

Toro Y Moi is now on tour with the Ruby Suns and will take a four day break in March for the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Causers of This, released January 4th, is the first full length album from this producer/songwriter from Columbia, South Carolina. Causers of This works well as a whole, but it is safe to say that the few tracks with heavier layering and chopped beats work the best. Tracks like Fax Showdow, Freak Love, and Talamak show the elaborate talent of Toro Y Moi's production and generate an excitement for ... (read more)

DunDiggy / Pm (mix_)No.1

February 14, 2010

I am very excited to feature PM(mix_)No.1, an  exclusive mix-tape for Paper Make Stack, compiled by Portland musician Dan Kinto, better known as DunDiggy. The mix sways from sharp-hitting techno to low end dubstep, creating an arch of select tracks for over 45 minutes. Kinto is a major component of Portland's well known hip-hop night, The Fix, and spins all vinyl sets with co-workers Kez and Nelkin at Rock Box, a monthly dance party at Holocene. Kinto explained that PM(mix_)No.1 is the type of dance party he's always pushing to influence. For ... (read more)

Benjamin Ducroz - Press +

February 06, 2010

Benjiamine Durcroz is an Australian motion artist/animator based in London. I came across his work through Yes Yes Ya'll about a month back when they posted his short animation, Press +.  Little information was given about the artist or the film so I contacted Durcoz himself to find out a bit more about the making of his work. The animation is a push between digitally drawn shapes and hand painted imagery, illustrating a fluid, yet explosive duality. Durcoz explained, "All 1,970 frames were printed – there were four frames to an A4 page, so I had 493 pages, which ...... (read more)

Yeasayer - Odd Blood

January 20, 2010

It has been a little over two years since the release of Yeasayer's debut album, All Hour Cymbals. The Brooklyn based band has now been building a steady hype around their sophomore effort Odd Blood, to be released February 9th on their new label Secretly Canadian. Following the release, they will embark on rather large European / North American tour. If you are not familiar with Yeasayer's psych-pop sound, you'll either love Chris Keating's vocals or hate em.' Either way, Odd Blood is musically noteworthy.

Check out their label Secretly Canadian.

Adobe Kuler - Color Generator

December 22, 2009

Everyone has their own methods for sourcing or pairing colors.  Some people have knowledge of color theory and others have not, but no matter, color generating tools can be useful. There are several online tools available, but never have I seen an application for generating color as efficient and straightforward as Adobe's Kuler.  Not only is it a beautiful looking application, but Adobe has formed a color community where users can download themes, create and upload their own, rate, give feedback, and download themes directly to Adobe Creative Suite.

The generator lets you create themes by choosing a base ... (read more)

Reso - Temjin EP

December 20, 2009

It is now 2010 and it seems that people are growing more accustomed to the sounds and variations of dubstep music. Different sides of the scene are pushing blends between house and techno, and others are launching what seem to be more aggressive sound ventures that could be compared to that of metal music. UK based producer Reso has defined his niche as one of the most technically gifted in the international scene. His new EP, Temjin, explores the curve of his electronic tastes, all while maintaining his signature style.

In part, Temjin feels like a cinematic score, each track ... (read more)

Wieden+Kennedy - New Site

December 19, 2009

Wieden + Kennedy has launched an attractive new site.  At first glance the design immediately proves itself more useful than their last.  The home page now displays regular updates with rotating projects, allowing you to see which accounts are being managed by each of their global offices.  Insights to new projects, studio life, and interests can be followed on each office’s blog and monitored through a downloadable application entitled The Megaphone.  This application lets you cycle through studio updates without accessing the site through your browser.  Status updates are accompanied with a diagram illustrating which of the office blogs generate ...
